Inspiring Phoenix to discover the nature that's waiting to be found all around us.
Our Beginning
Our project took root in our founders backyard. Living in the middle of the city he sought ways to introduce his young daughter to the natural world. His family planted a pollinator garden and were soon exploring their neighborhood in search of nature.
Making our city into an urban Eden is not an impossible dream. Nature will do most of the work, if we just step out of the way.
As architects, botanists and conservationists, we saw the vital role that our cities and developed lands must begin to play in efforts to preserve biodiversity. Around this core idea we formed to find ways to better connect ourselves and our cities to nature and to develop ways to make built environments more hospitable to native species.
Our Mission
Urban Nature Society is a Phoenix based non-profit organization dedicated to research and education around reconciliation ecology.
Urban Nature Society connects with the city at large through citizen science opportunities, creation of urban habitats, stewardship of urban habitats, volunteer opportunities, and resources for community groups wishing to create their own urban habitats.
We also offer habitat and native plant consultation for public and private spaces. Please email us to learn more.
Our Projects
We're currently working on a number of citizen science projects and urban habitat projects. Please check back for updates!
